What Is a Raw Ceramic Quill?

The ceramic quill is a quill made from ceramic – a durable material, flexible in its form and responsive to touch and water. When we speak of a “raw quill,” we mean it arrives uncut, without sharpening – just the material in its basic form, like sculpture without a pre-made model.

The great advantage is the freedom to create it exactly as you wish:

Every Sofer – And His Quill

Some Sofrim cut it at a 45° angle, others at 60°. Some sharpen the tip very fine and others prefer thickness that holds a bit more ink. Some smooth it with fine sandpaper and some prefer to feel the roughness of the ceramic itself.

There is no one right way – there is one right way for you.
